PASeries Reading Honored in 12th Annual Education Software Review Awards

Reading Progress Monitoring Assessment Recognized as Best Early Elementary Language Arts Product

IOWA CITY, Iowa   – Oct. 9, 2007 – Pearson announced today that PASeries® Reading is the winner of a 12th Annual Education Software Review (EDDIES) Award. Part of Pearson’s award-winning PASeries (Progress Assessment Series®), PASeries Reading is designed to measure reading progress throughout the school year and to forecast growth for students in grades 3-8. PASeries Reading was recognized as the best language arts product for early elementary students.

Presented by the ComputED Learning Center in San Diego, the EDDIE Awards recognize innovative and content-rich programs and Web sites that provide parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence, including augmenting the classroom curriculum and improving teacher productivity. Winners are selected from titles submitted by software publishers from around the world. Judges evaluate the products for academic content, potential for broad classroom use, technical merit, subject approach and management system. In May 2007, PASeries Reading was honored with a Best Educational Software (BESSIE) Award from the ComputED Learning Center.

“We developed PASeries to offer states and school districts a scientifically valid, research-based progress monitoring assessment to forecast student growth toward state performance goals or grade level expectations,” said Douglas Kubach, president and CEO, Assessment and Information group, Pearson. “We are particularly proud to add this award to the list of honors PASeries has earned because the judges are educators who work with students every day and understand the importance of linking assessment to instruction.”

PASeries Reading uses the industry-standard scientific Lexile Framework® for Reading. Lexiles® provide a common scale for matching reader ability and text difficulty, allowing easy monitoring of student progress. The reading assessments include screener, progress and diagnostic tests, focusing on overall ability as well as specific skills in reading.

In addition to PASeries Reading, the PASeries product line includes PASeries Algebra I, Mathematics and Writing. PASeries is one of Pearson’s complementary interim and formative assessment products designed to offer schools, districts and states the flexibility and functionality to meet their unique assessment needs. Pearson’s interim and formative assessment products range from engines for creating and delivering benchmark tests to research-based items and pre-built tests for screening, progress and diagnostic uses, available on paper or online.
