Quality Programs

Quality control begins with planning meetings and design reviews at the earliest possible stage with the customer, through contract review, advanced quality planning, manufacturing and process control, inspection and testing, to final delivery of reports.

Proven Quality Methodologies

Pearson uses proven business models that incorporate procedures to assess risks and enhance quality in program initiatives throughout a project's duration. These models emphasize the importance of quality and the business processes needed to enhance quality in all program activities.

In addition, Pearson maintains a staff of more than 20 full-time, highly trained internal auditors and process engineers who define and monitor continued compliance with the following standards:

  • ISO 9001:2000 standard
    • Pearson Print Services and Performance Scoring operations are registered to the quality management system requirements defined by ISO 9001:2000. The ISO 9001:2000 standard has been established by the International Organization for Standards and provides a framework to allow organizations to meet customer requirements and enhance customer satisfaction. By adhering to the ISO standard, these Pearson units have a planned, repeatable, and continuously improving management system and a proven method to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Capability Maturity Model (CMM)
    • Using the methodologies of the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM).  Pearson is the only company in the education assessment industry whose project managers strictly follow these.  Pearson operates at CMM Level 4, with Level 5 being the highest attainable ranking; most software development organizations are Level 1.
        • Since 1998, only 8.2 percent of the organizations in the United States that have undergone publicly reported CMM appraisals have reached CMM Level 4 or higher.
