Pearson PASeries Named as Finalist in Software & Information Industry Association’s 2005 Codie AwardsIOWA CITY, Iowa - Jan. 19, 2005 - Pearson Education today announced that its PASeries™ (Progress Assessment Series™) formative assessment product line is a finalist in the Software & Information Industry Association’s (SIIA) 20th Annual Codie Awards. Launched just last September, PASeries was named a finalist by SIIA in the Best Student Test Preparation or Assessment Solution category. For 20 years, the Codie Awards have recognized vision in software, education technology and digital content. The software and information industry views the Codie Awards as the leading honor for this sector’s finest products and services. The Best Student Test Preparation or Assessment Solution category awards the best computer-based or online solution for diagnostic assessments or preparation for high-stakes tests for K-12 content. This year Codie Awards judges worked to identify the finalists in all categories from more than 1,000 nominations. "The 20th annual Codie Awards continue the tradition of honoring the best of the software, content and education technology industries," said Ken Wasch, president, SIIA. "When one considers the number of outstanding companies that competed this year, being named a Codie Awards finalist is a significant achievement." The first two PASeries products, PASeries Reading and PASeries Mathematics, were developed to provide educators in grades 3 through 8 with better ways to measure student progress, forecast growth and tie assessment to classroom instruction. PASeries uses the scientific Lexile® scale for reading measurement and its new companion Quantile™ scale for mathematics. “In just the first six months since its debut, educators from around the country are expressing a great deal of interest in the ways that PASeries can help them to map classroom instruction to assessment,” said Douglas Kubach, president, Pearson Educational Measurement. “It is exciting for PASeries to be a finalist for a Codie Award in its inaugural year.” The Codie Awards is the only peer-recognition awards program of its kind in the industry, providing a unique opportunity for companies to earn the praise of their competitors. The 2005 Codie Awards will be presented at a black-tie gala at Universal Studio’s Globe Theater in Universal City, California on May 25, 2005.
